After the success of Netflix’s adaptation of the Heartstopper graphic novels began in April 2022, fans couldn’t get enough of the series until Heartstopper season 3, based on the same books, was released on October 3rd.
When is Heartstopper Volume 3 coming out?
We now have an answer for all the fans who have been asking when the next installment will be available!
Heartstopper season 3 was released on October 3, and author Alice Oseman announced the news on Instagram. Not only that, but she also revealed that there is an upcoming fourth volume in the series! This series will conclude with Heartstopper season 6.
Heartstopper – what is it all about?
In the Netflix series Heartstopper, Joe Locke plays the role of Charlie Spring, a high school student who is dealing with his affection for Nick Nelson, a famous rugby player. The show follows the exploits of lovable characters like Elle and Tao as they navigate life at an all-boys grammar school.
Fans lauded the graphic books and Netflix show for accurately portraying the LGBTQ+ community and skillfully navigating the complexities of adolescence.
Heartstopper Season 3’s cast and production details
Kizzy Edgell plays Darcy Olsson, Kit Connor plays Nick Nelson, Joe Locke plays Charlie Spring, Yasmin Finney plays Elle Argent, William Gao plays Tao Xu, Jenny Walser plays Tori Spring, and Tobie Donovan plays Isaac Henderson, among others. The romantic comedy was developed by Zorana Piggott and is based on the same-titled graphic novels by Alice Oseman. Zorana Piggott is behind the production as part of See-Saw Films.
The series is a labor of love for Alice Oseman
The author of Heartstopper, Alice Oseman, has expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received from her graphic novel series and its subsequent adaptation for Netflix, calling it “more than I ever could have hoped for.” The series has sold over six million copies worldwide.
“As a creator, it’s truly an incredible feeling and beyond my wildest dreams to be able to assist someone on their journey, even in a small way, through my stories,” she told PinkNews.
“I’ve always thought that young adult fiction should represent all youths, and as an artist, I strive to be mindful of how I treat my audience and include them when I can.”
She continued by saying that although people are smitten with Nick and Charlie’s romance, she’s glad that the graphic novels and the show could “feature a diverse range of queer characters… because the series, as well as being a romance, is about queer friendships.”
According to Oseman, who identifies as asexual, writers who do not identify with certain queer identities may struggle to write about asexuality and other marginalized identities “because they just might not really understand that experience.”
What does Season 3 of Heartstopper signify by ending?
In the Season 3 conclusion of Heartstopper, Charlie finds fresh hope following his difficult struggle with mental illness. While Charlie remains at home to prepare for his band’s major summer fete performance, Nick, Elle, Tara, and Imogen embark on a road trip as part of a university tour. Nodding toward his better self-image, Charlie goes so far as to choose a T-shirt over a baggy sweater.
Nick persists through the gridlock to reach Charlie’s performance, where he is already performing with an air of self-assurance. They get home and immediately go to Nick’s room, giddy after the amazing night. Before getting into bed together, Charlie asks Nick to remove his shirt, revealing a vulnerable moment. Sharing this special occasion, the two lads are well aware of its significance. Season 3 ends with a beautiful view of the couple holding hands while Oscar Lang’s “Million Little Reasons” plays in the background. Heartstopper animated leaves encircle the scene. Oseman is thrilled to present a young pair who defy societal expectations and “takes their time” during sexual encounters.
It’s something I had a feeling we’d cover on the episode. According to Oseman, it seems like a logical step for their relationship. They had both endured tremendous hardship. Nonetheless, there comes a time when they are emotionally prepared. A lot of the plot revolves around the characters’ feelings, namely the question, “How do I know if I’m ready?”
Locke is rather pleased with the final scene. That Charlie and Nick have grown as people and as a relationship is demonstrated, he adds, by this. “The characters are maturing, but they have a ways to go before they reach adulthood.”
